My head hurts

This is the best time of the year! Right?
For quite a few years now, I beg to differ. Some might call me a scrouge, and they might be right in a way. I want to enjoy the holiday season, I really do. I watch Hallmark movies until I have bed sores. I want that magical happy holiday just like they do, you know, when it begins to snow!
First of all, if it snows, now I have to shovel. Ugh! Second, I live in reality, so there goes that. I did have it, 35 years ago, while my husband and I were dating. Come to think of it, that is exactly what the Hallmark movies are. Meeting, navigating your differences, finding those differences charming, and then falling in love. It did snow a few times, and we kissed, but nobody filmed it and I can't watch it every year. And then life happened. Thank God that part is never filmed. I love my life and what we have in it but, it is a world wind, as you all know. It seems to get harder and harder to appreciate it. I would love to step back and take it all in but then my phone starts making noises.
For me, that means custom orders start to pile up. the list is as long as Santa's! I am very much appreciative of all of it, truly I am, it's just that it takes me away from my creative flow.
If you have been following my journey you may sense a pattern. In January, I take a little time off to regroup. In February, I get inspired by something new. March to about June I am on a roll. August to October I'm in my happy place. November it all stops because custom orders come in.
So, this is the quandary . . . I don't want to stop! But the custom orders are big money makers. Money talks and my bullshit must take a walk.
I love my bullshit with all of my heart. I wake up and go straight to my studio, with a cup of coffee of course, and create all day long! When I have to stand up and stretch, I look at all that I did, and smile.
The talking money doesn't get my full attention like that. I wake up and procrastinate BIG time! Don't ask me what I'm doing while that is happening, because nothing is happening not even the bullshit! I look at the clock, and more than half the day is gone. The pressure builds, because I'm on a time crunch. Custom orders are timed. There are only a few weeks for each order to get done. Most need to be shipped to other parts of the country and need time to get there and get there by Christmas!!! Furthermore, there should be a buffer in case something happens! This my friends, is why my head hurts!
Again, I would like to reiterate, I TRULY appreciate all of the custom orders!!!!

An artist's dream is to create what flows out of their fingertips and they All sell! Everyone should love what you create as much as you do and just can't live without it! Like you can't.
January is right around the corner. This year instead of being inspired by something new, I will be continuing my Sculpted work. I have big plans for them! As I always do for all of my work but, this feels different. I'm not willing to move on. I know exactly where I want this to go. (That information will be in another blog) Until then, I will continue my custom orders like the professional that I am, and I will proudly show off the smile on my face every time they tell me how happy they are with it. It is a wonderful feeling. I just have to remember that at the beginning not just the end.
I will show you most of those orders, after the holidays.
Until then, just know that I am very blessed to be a full-time artist. I wouldn't change any of it for the world. I just needed to vent. Isn't that what a Blog is? I am an Artist, after all, I can't afford therapy! ;)
May you all be filled with love, laughter and peace, this holiday season,
Dawn xo
