Being an artist can mean many things. There are visual artists, musicians, photographers, sculptors, poets, and more. I’m very familiar with musicians, because my husband is one. And I am a visual artist. We often have conversations about how challenging it is to be an artist and make a living from it. But my husband, the musician, always seems to find a way to navigate through life and make a living as a musician. I, on the other hand, have not yet figured it out.

I was brushing my teeth this morning, and a thought popped into my head. Music is a part of everyone’s life. It doesn’t matter what type of music you listen to. Whether you turn the radio on (I know I just dated myself.) or if it’s in a movie or a television show, or you go to concerts or Church for that matter, music is a part of everyone’s life.
Visual Art doesn’t have to be in your life unless you want it to be. You don’t have to understand it. You don’t have to pick a genre. Walls can be bare. It just doesn’t ever have to be a part of your life.
My work threw up all over my house, and there are people who never even notice it. If I have music on, there is always someone who comments, "I love this song", "Can you make this louder?" The same goes for when they are in my car. You can't hang a painting in there!

Just a few of my paintings in my house.
Except for the one on top of the lemons, that's my cousin Raymond's work, Fabulous!
There is always a place for music, but never enough wall space for a painting
I should put that on a bumper sticker!
